Renty rents out party lighting, from effect lights and light bars to strobes, starting at €19.90 per day. You can book online and pick it up for free, or have the party lighting delivered and set up for you. You can see which party sets are available for your date directly in the catalog.
Party lighting turns the room where you just ate into a dance floor. Ceiling light provides even illumination and stays where it is. Party light moves, changes color, and reacts to the music: colorful points of light travel across the floor, walls, and guests, while a strobe freezes the movement for a moment. It is the light that makes a party a party and is the foundation for a real party atmosphere.
You need less lighting technology for this than many think. One effect light or a light bar is enough for about 40 square meters; three devices will fill a hall. The pictures show party light in real rooms, from a stairwell to an event with high tables to a hall with a gallery.
Three questions about guests, the room, and desired light effects, and the right type of equipment and quantity will be determined. The guide does not recommend a single model, but rather the type of party light that suits your event. The catalog will then show you which devices are available for your date.
For a birthday party in a basement or living room, a single effect light is enough. A Starburst or a Derby on the sideboard, music mode on, ceiling light off, and the dance floor creates itself. If you are celebrating an 18th or 30th birthday in a clubhouse, place two devices on opposite sides so that the light reaches the whole room and the atmosphere is right everywhere.
At a wedding, party lighting is only needed after dinner. A light bar next to the DJ booth colors the dance floor, a mirror ball sets the scene for the first dance, and two effect lights are added in the corners of the hall. For graduation parties, company events, and any event with a full dance floor, you can turn it up a notch: a strobe for the highlights, plus a laser over the guests' heads as a special feature.
You can find everything else you need for the party, from the sound system to the microphone, on the page for Party Equipment.

A light bar above the dance floor is enough to turn a room into a party. A fog machine makes the effect much more visible.
Party lighting differs less in brightness than in the type of light effects it produces. An effect light like a Derby or sphere distributes moving points of light, a light bar bundles several effects on a stand, and a strobe creates short, sharp flashes. If you want light just for decoration to bathe walls in calm colors, battery-powered ambient lighting is a good fit, such as wireless floor spots that don't create tripping hazards. For even light on a stage, there are LED spotlights, while compact LED floodlights can color individual walls. If you are looking for ready-made light sets and packages with controls for an entire program, you can find them under Lighting Systems.
In clear air, you will mainly see the points from Derbys and lasers on the floor and walls. The beams between them only become visible in haze. This is provided by a hazer, which distributes fine mist without obstructing the view, or a fog machine for denser fog; both can be found under Fog Machines. The guide to lighting types for your party explains in detail which types of light exist and what they do in a room.
The rental price for party lighting starts at €19.90 per day for the Botex SP-1500 strobe. Effect lights like the Starburst cost €24.90–€29.90, light bars with LED spots, Derbys, and strobes are €39.90, and the GigBAR Move with two small moving heads is €79.90. A rental day is a full 24 hours from pickup or delivery. Day 1 is the base price, and each additional day is 15% of that. Insurance and power cables are always included.
A weekend from Friday to Sunday counts as three rental days. In this case, the Starburst costs €38.87 instead of €89.70, and the BossFX-2 Pro is €51.87. Rental prices apply to free pickup; delivery and setup are available upon request. Other individual devices are listed with their daily rates in the catalog, and the complete pricing policy can be found under Prices.

How much does it cost to rent party lighting?
Rental prices start at €19.90 per day for a strobe; effect lights like the Starburst cost €24.90–29.90, and light bars are €39.90. All prices are gross and include insurance. Day 1 is the base price, and each additional 24-hour day is 15% of that, meaning a Starburst for three days would cost €38.87.
How many party lights do you need for your room?
As a rule of thumb for lighting, one device is sufficient for about 40 square meters of party space. For a living room or basement party room, one effect light or light bar is enough; for a community hall of 40-80 square meters, two devices on opposite sides are appropriate, and for a large hall, three. For a large venue or marquee, we will suggest the quantity in your free quote.
Do you need prior knowledge to set up party lights?
No, you don't need any knowledge of lighting technology. Most devices run in automatic or music-sync mode as soon as they are plugged in, without the need for a lighting console or manual settings. Light bars come with a stand and remote control; you simply set up the bar, connect the power, and select the program. When you pick up the equipment, the staff will show you how to operate it, and there is an additional video tutorial for the Starburst.
Do you need fog for party lighting?
Not necessarily. Colors and light effects on the floor and walls work even in clear air. However, the beams between them, such as those from derbies, lasers, or the Starburst, only become visible in haze. If you want to see them, rent a hazer and check with the venue beforehand to see if haze is allowed, as sensitive smoke detectors may react to it.
Is strobe lighting dangerous?
For most guests, no. However, for people with photosensitive epilepsy, rapid flashing lights can trigger a seizure—according to the British Epilepsy Society, most likely at 16-25 flashes per second. Therefore, use the strobe only briefly, perhaps during a musical climax, do not leave it running continuously, and inform your guests beforehand.
What glows under blacklight?
Anything that converts UV light into visible light: white clothing with optical brighteners from laundry detergent, neon colors, highlighters, UV makeup, and fluorescent decorations. Normal colors and dark fabrics remain dark. The room must be truly dark for this; even a little ambient light significantly weakens the glow.
What should you look out for with a party laser?
It comes down to direction. A laser belongs above head height, never at eye level and never pointed directly at guests. Manufacturers recommend keeping the beams at least three meters high and testing the device before the party without an audience. The WOOKIE 400 RGB and the Radical 2 are laser class 3B and are therefore more powerful than the lasers in the light bars.
Can party lighting be used outdoors?
Only indoors. The rental equipment is generally built for dry interior spaces. They work in a tent, barn, or on a covered terrace, provided the plugs and extension cords remain dry. The SHEHDS Strobe 1000W is explicitly built for outdoor use and is IP65-rated according to the manufacturer. Where there is no power outlet nearby, battery-powered ambient lighting is a helpful solution.
Party lighting or a lighting system: what is the difference?
Party lighting here refers to individual devices that you combine according to the room and the desired effect, from a derby to a light bar. A lighting system is a pre-configured light set consisting of several components, often with a controller, booked as a single package. For a birthday party, a single device is usually enough; for a program with specific lighting cues, a set is the better choice.
How do you find out if party lights are available in your city?
Use the catalog at the top of this page. Enter your city and the date to see immediately which equipment is available for your event, along with the price. You don't need to send an email inquiry. For questions and information in advance, you can contact us directly via phone or WhatsApp, daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
Party lighting is the branch of lighting technology aimed at the dance floor, suitable for any event with up to about 500 guests. We have 28 locations across Germany and Austria, so there is likely one near you, each with a dedicated local contact person. You can pick up the equipment for free and receive a short briefing, or have it delivered and set up for you.
Whether you want to rent party lights, hire disco lights, book a mirror ball, or borrow UV light for a neon party, it all comes down to the same thing: you only pay for the days the lights are in use, and you don't have to worry about storage or maintenance. For one or two parties a year—from birthdays to company events—renting is cheaper than buying, especially since you can choose the perfect device for every occasion.
The equipment is selected to fit into any standard car. An effect light like the Starburst weighs 3.65 kg, while a complete light bar with a tripod like the BossFX-2 Pro weighs 8.8 kg. If you want full service, you can book delivery, setup, and on-site support. Delivery and setup cost €59 per hour or part thereof, as does on-site support. Support is worth it if you want someone to operate the lights during the party.
Know the limitations. Party lighting only works when it's dark; no device can compete with daylight coming through large windows. Beams need haze, blacklight requires a truly dark room, and party lighting does not replace general lighting: keep normal lights on for paths, stairs, and the buffet. We do not rent out string lights, as it is cheaper for you to buy them than to rent them.
Booking is done online. Simply enter your city and dates to see which items are available from our inventory, then complete your order without needing a deposit or email inquiries—no need to request quotes from multiple providers. A weekend from Friday to Sunday counts as three rental days, with the rental price increasing by only 15% of the base price twice. Comprehensive insurance is included in the rental; details on performance and what's included are available on each product page.
The choice of lighting depends primarily on the size of the room and the number of guests. The rule of thumb from our rental service is simple: one device is enough for about 40 square meters, and three will fill a hall. This refers to the area where people are partying and dancing, not the entire apartment. The table shows you how many devices to plan for each room and how to position them.
More equipment doesn't automatically mean better quality on the dance floor. It is more important that the light comes from at least two directions once the room is larger than a living room; otherwise, one side will remain dark. Place light bars next to the DJ booth, use effect lights in the corners to highlight the dance floor, and hang a mirror ball in the center of the room. Strobes and lasers turn this into a full light show, but they should be considered additions to this basic setup.
Party lighting is built for people who want to celebrate, not for lighting technicians. Most devices work on a plug-and-play basis, requiring no lighting console or complex settings—four steps are all it takes. For the Starburst, a video tutorial shows you exactly what to do.
Place effect lights on a table, speaker, or the floor—ideally elevated and facing the dance floor. Mount light bars on the included tripod, and the mirror ball comes ready to use on its own stand with a motor and spotlight.
Every device needs a power outlet; these units run on mains power, not batteries. Effect lights draw around 20–55 watts, while a light bar like the BossFX-2 Pro uses 130 watts. A strobe light with a flash lamp, such as the Botex SP-1500, draws up to 1,600 watts and requires its own dedicated outlet.
In music mode, also known as sound mode, a built-in microphone picks up the bass and syncs the light to the beat, similar to a classic light organ. In automatic mode, the device runs a pre-set program with color changes and movement.
Party lighting only works in the dark, so turn off or dim your regular lights. Cover large windows if you're starting the party before sunset. Keep a small lamp on for walkways, the bar, and the buffet throughout the event.
Blacklight is worth it as soon as a party has a theme: neon party, glow party, Halloween, or 80s. UV bars emit light just below the visible spectrum, with our rental units operating at 395-398 nanometers. White clothing, neon colors, and fluorescent decorations convert this into a bright glow, everything else remains dark, and the room takes on a unique atmosphere. If you want to rent blacklight, check beforehand whether the room can be made dark enough. Ideas for decorations, outfits, and games can be found in the guide to lighting a themed party.
White textiles with optical brighteners from laundry detergent, neon colors, highlighters, UV makeup, and fluorescent decorations. Normal colors and dark fabrics remain invisible.
Blacklight requires a truly dark room. Even residual light from windows or an open door significantly reduces the effect, so plan your party for the evening and cover the windows.
One UV bar is enough for a living-room-sized space; for larger rooms, place two bars on opposite sides. Keep the distance to the dance floor short, as the effect diminishes quickly with distance.
UV light is static. For movement on the dance floor, combine the bar with an effect light or a light bar. Check the catalog to see if a blacklight bar is available at your location, or ask in your free quote request.
Among party lighting effects, the laser is the icing on the cake, not the base lighting. It draws fine lines and patterns on ceilings and walls, and in a haze, the beams appear as fans in the room. It does not color the dance floor, which is why it is always used in addition to an effect light or a light bar.
In our rental inventory, lasers are usually integrated into combination units: in light bars like the BossFx-1 Pro and the GigBAR Move with laser class 3R, or in the Multi FX Laser Bar with class 2M. The Derby Radical 2 and the animation laser WOOKIE 400 RGB, which projects figures and animations, have the more powerful class 3B. The more powerful the laser, the more important the direction: beams belong above heads, never at eye level, and you should test them without an audience before the party starts.
