Renty rents out fog machines, hazers, and vertical fog machines starting at €39.90 per day, fog fluid included. You can book online and pick up for free or have the fog machine delivered and set up for you. You can see which fog machines are available for your date directly in the catalog.
A light beam is invisible as long as there is nothing in the air to scatter it. You only see the spot where it hits, not the path it takes. A fog machine vaporizes fog fluid into tiny droplets, and these are exactly what make the beam visible. Without fog, an expensive lighting system just leaves a bright dot on the floor. Atmosphere is only created when the air has something to scatter the light.
That is why every light show needs a device that enriches the air. How much you need depends on the effect: dense clouds of fog for the dance floor, fine haze for beams and lasers, or a fog column for that one specific moment. The amount of fog determines whether your light effects appear as beams in the room or just land as colorful spots on the wall.
Four questions, and you'll know which type suits your evening and how much it costs per day to rent.
For the dance floor. Most of our rentals are for parties, birthdays, and weddings, almost always in combination with lighting. Company parties are also regularly on the list, where fog helps the band or DJ get the energy going on the dance floor. As soon as the room is lightly filled with fog, you can see the beams from the effect lights, turning an illuminated area into a dance floor with atmosphere.
The second major category is themed events. At Halloween, fog carries the entire decor, while at carnival balls and themed parties, it makes the difference between a decorated room and a stage set. Then there are stage events: band performances, theater, and concerts use fog and haze because every lighting mood only gains depth with it. Without fog, half the impact of the lighting system remains unused. For events like these, organizers usually rent the machine together with the lighting system.
For a wedding, it's worth looking at the schedule. A classic fog machine is suitable for the entrance area and the party afterward, while a low-lying fog carpet looks better for the first dance. What belongs to which occasion can be found on the Wedding Technology page, and the corresponding decor page is Halloween.

Fog makes the beams of effect lights visible. Without it, the same light just leaves a spot on the floor.
All three work on the same principle, but they differ in density and behavior. Fog rises and fills the room, a hazer keeps a fine mist in the air, and low-lying fog stays on the ground. The type you need depends on the effect you want to achieve. The table shows what you will pay for each.
The fourth row has its own page because a different component determines the effect: an ice chamber or an ultrasonic module that cools the fog before it exits. You don't need dry ice for this, and Renty does not rent it out. How the four types of fog are physically created and how the fluids differ is explained in detail in the fog machine guide. Fog machines and hazers are just one part of the special effects equipment available for rent. You can find other categories, from bubble machines and cold sparks to lasers, in the Effects Technology section. Bubble machines and hazers combine well with fog; ultimately, the choice depends on the occasion.
Renting a fog machine starts at €39.90 per day. This category includes classic fog machines, compact hazers, and mini fog machines for smaller spaces. At the top end, the selection goes up to €169 for professional units with high output and LED lighting within the fog. The price applies per day of use, regardless of how many hours you run the device.
Day 1 is at the base price, and each additional 24-hour day is 15% of that. Every rental device follows the same pricing scale, which is fully detailed on the Pricing page. The daily rate decreases with the rental duration, so renting for three days does not cost three times as much. Fog fluid is included in the rental price, and power cables and remote controls are provided.
You pick up the equipment from the location in your city and set it up yourself. Everything is prepared for plug-and-play, and there is a video tutorial for every device.

We bring the equipment to your venue and pick it up again after the event. You can handle the connection and setup yourself; every device is prepared for it.

We set up the equipment on-site, handle the cabling, configure the sound and lighting, and dismantle everything after the event. You receive a fully configured system ready to go.

A technician stays on-site during the event, responds to changes in the schedule, and handles the teardown afterward. The safest option for speeches and presentations.

How much does it cost to rent a fog machine?
At Renty, rentals start at €39.90 per day, including fog fluid. This price range includes the classic fog machine, the compact hazer, and the mini fog machine. Vertical fog machines start at €49.90, and professional high-output devices cost up to €169 per day. From the second day onwards, each additional day costs 15% of the base price, so a three-day rental does not cost three times the daily rate.
Are fog machines allowed everywhere?
Fog machines are not fireworks and do not require official permits. The venue is the deciding factor: rooms with fire alarm systems, hotels, schools, and public halls almost always require prior consultation because artificial fog can trigger optical smoke detectors. Check with your venue before booking, and ensure that escape routes and exits remain visible at all times.
What do you need to operate a fog machine?
A power outlet, a stable heat-resistant surface, and fog fluid. The fluid is included in the Renty rental price, and the power cable and remote control are provided. Nothing else is needed; the devices are plug-and-play. If you want to control the device via a lighting console, you will also need a DMX cable.
What kind of liquid goes into the fog machine?
Fog fluid is water-based, a mixture of distilled water and glycol or glycerin. Water alone does not work, and homemade mixtures can clog the heating element. A hazer requires its own thinner hazer fluid, which is not interchangeable with standard fog fluid. Renty provides the appropriate fluid for your device.
How much power does a fog machine need?
It draws as much power as its heating capacity indicates, specifically during heating and emission. A 1,600 W machine draws about 1.6 kW while heating, and almost nothing in between. A standard wall outlet is sufficient for one device. If your lighting, sound system, and fog machine are on the same circuit, plan to put the fog machine on a separate one.
How long does it take for the fog to appear?
Depending on the device, it takes between two and a half and nine minutes. The Stairville AF-250 is ready to go in 5 minutes, while the ADJ Fog Fury Jett takes 9 minutes. Don't leave the setup until the last minute; turn the machine on before your guests arrive. It will automatically reheat as needed throughout the event.
What is the difference between a fog machine and a hazer?
A fog machine emits dense white plumes that are immediately visible and dissipate after a few minutes. A hazer creates a fine mist that is barely noticeable until a beam of light passes through it, but it provides a consistent effect for hours. Use fog for the dance floor and a hazer for light shows or lasers.
Are there battery-powered fog machines?
Not in the Renty range. All devices require a power outlet, including the handheld fog machine with a shoulder strap. For locations without power, you can pair the machine with a power station. Calculate the capacity beforehand, as heating devices consume significantly more power than a sound system.
Will one tank fill last the whole evening?
For most devices, yes, provided you use them in bursts rather than continuous operation. A device with a 2.5-liter tank will last through an entire party, while a 5-liter hazer can last for several days. The exception is the handheld fog machine: its tank holds 0.25 liters, which is enough for about four to six powerful bursts before you need to refill it.
Where can you get a fog machine near you?
Renty operates at 28 locations across Germany and Austria, each with a dedicated local contact person. Enter your city in the catalog above to see which devices are available in your area. A standard fog machine covers most occasions, while hazers and vertical fog machines are for more specialized needs.
Renting a fog machine from Renty is simple: select your device in the catalog, set the rental period, pay online, and you're done. Rentals start at €39.90 per day and include the fog fluid. There is no deposit and no need to send an inquiry email. You can pick up the device at your location or have it delivered and set up for you.
Our range includes three types. Classic fog machines create dense white clouds of fog for parties and dance floors. This is the first choice if you simply want a party atmosphere. Hazers and haze machines emit a fine mist that keeps light beams and lasers visible all evening, which is why theaters, stages, and concerts use them. Vertical fog machines shoot a column of fog upwards and replace expensive CO2 effects for entrances and drops—exactly the kind of show moments that people remember.
The room determines which device is the right one. For up to about 100 m², 400 to 900 W of power is sufficient; in a function hall, the standard is 1,200 to 1,600 W; and for a large hall, the output per minute counts for more than the wattage. If you are unsure about your choice, go through the four questions in the guide above; the result will filter the catalog directly to the appropriate type.
Renting a fog machine, hiring a fog machine, or leasing a fog machine all refer to the same service. Renty rents out equipment at 28 locations in Germany and Austria, each with a dedicated contact person. If you are looking for a fog machine nearby, enter your city in the catalog above to see immediately which devices are available for rent there. The classic fog machine covers most occasions, while hazers and vertical fog machines are for special cases.
It is best to clarify two points before use. First, the venue: optical smoke detectors react to artificial fog, so rooms with fire alarm systems require prior coordination. Second, power: all devices run on wall outlets; there are no battery-powered fog machines, so for locations without a connection, a power station is required. For larger events, it is worth getting advice in advance, especially if you want to rent light, sound, and fog equipment together.
Low-lying fog is a special case. If you are looking for a "carpet" of fog that stays on the floor during the first dance, you need a machine with an ice chamber or ultrasonic technology, which you can find on our low-lying fog machine page. Dry ice is not necessary for this. For everything else, from a small smoke machine for a party basement to a fog cannon for the stage, the catalog on this page is the right place. Renting a fog machine there takes less than two minutes.
The decisive factor is not just the wattage, but the ratio of output to air volume. A small device in a large hall will never keep up, while a powerful device in a small room will fog everything up in two minutes, leaving you unable to see the dance floor. In addition to power, the output range and the type of environment—whether the room is enclosed or open—are important. The right amount of fog depends on the air volume, not the data sheet.
For up to about 100 m², 400 to 900 W is sufficient. The Stairville AF-40 Mini with 400 W fits in a bag due to its low weight, while the Lenco LFM-220 with 900 W includes an RGB light show for built-in lighting effects. Work in short bursts rather than continuous operation.
For the standard case of 100 to 300 m², 1,200 to 1,600 W is typical. The Stairville AF-250 with 1,300 W is designed for rooms up to 100 m²; for anything larger, the Eliminator VF1600 takes over with 566 m³ of fog per minute.
Here, the amount of fog per minute counts for more than the heating power. The BeamZ Blaze2200 Jet delivers around 600 m³ per minute with 2,200 W, along with a long output range. Devices of 3,000 watts or more are professional venue equipment that no longer fits in a passenger car and are therefore not available for rent.
Wind ruins every calculation. Fog blows away in seconds, and haze won't hold at all outdoors. If you must use it, take the most powerful device available, position it with the wind, and plan the effect as a momentary highlight rather than a continuous state.
All devices require power from a wall outlet, including the handheld fog machine. We do not carry battery-powered fog machines in our range. If you are working outdoors without a power connection, combine the device with a power station and calculate in advance how long the capacity will last.
At Renty, fog fluid is included in the rental price, so you don't need anything else. However, for planning purposes, you should consider fluid consumption—that is, how long a tank fill will last. The rule of thumb: if you work in bursts, one fill will get you through the evening; if you need continuous fog, you will need to refill.
Two figures from our range illustrate the scope. The Stairville AF-150 holds 2.5 liters, which is enough for an entire party. The handheld LIGHT4ME FOGun 1200 fog machine holds 0.25 liters with a consumption of 125 ml per minute, resulting in about four to six powerful bursts per fill. A hazer consumes the least; the Vector Haze 1.7 lasts for several days with 5 liters.
There is only one important rule: fog fluid and hazer fluid are not the same and are not interchangeable. A hazer requires thinner hazer fluid, otherwise the nozzle will clog. The quality of the fluid determines the lifespan of the device. You can find out which types of fluid exist and why using homemade mixtures destroys equipment in our fog machine guide.
Yes, an optical smoke detector can be triggered by artificial fog. It measures scattered light and cannot distinguish between smoke and fog fluid. This is the most important difference compared to low-lying fog: low-lying fog stays on the ground, while regular fog rises exactly to where the detectors are located. Always clarify the use of fog before booking; a false alarm can ruin the whole evening.
In rooms with a fire alarm system, the decision is made by the venue operator, not the event organizer. Hotels, schools, halls, and community centers can have detectors switched off or adjusted for an evening, but they need advance notice. Ask before you book.
Do not place the device under a detector and do not aim the output toward the ceiling if one is located there. A hazer is the safer choice here, as it releases a small, continuous amount of fog rather than creating a dense cloud with every burst.
Exits and escape routes must remain visible, even when the room is full of fog. Ventilate periodically and use the machine sparingly so that guests can still see where they are going. This isn't just a formality; it's the reason for most complaints after a party.
Fog machines emit hot steam and should therefore be placed on a solid, heat-resistant surface—not on a tablecloth, in a decorative corner, or directly next to a curtain.
For those who want the specifics: The Austrian Social Insurance for Occupational Risks has published a fact sheet on the safe handling of fog fluids. While aimed at businesses, it also answers questions regarding ventilation and exposure for private events.
